I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love making these little doll/stroller/play quilts! It is such a fun way to try out new designs and practice free motion quilting. And bonus - not only do my daughters (all 3 of them) love playing with the quilts (doll blankets, tablecloths for impromptu tea parties, forts) - they also make great gifts.
This week, I tried something new with this loopy FMQ design.
And then I used this mini to try a spiral. I've done this before with a walking foot but this is the first time I tried it with the free motion foot.
As you can see, I definitely need more practice!
These little quilts were not specifically on my 100 Day Hustle list but I'm amending #4 on my list which was "pouches, journal covers, and other similar items for birthday party gifts" to include little quilts since I plan on making more (you know - for the practice!)
And since it is almost the halfway point for the 100 Day Hustle, here is my update:
1. Quilt for my middle daughter - completed (here it is.)
2. Toy Buckets for my baby's room - done but I haven't blogged about it yet.
3. Stroller Blanket that attaches to the stroller - done (here it is.)
4. Birthday party gifts - no pouches or journal covers yet but I'm putting the little quilts above in this category.
5. Table Runner - no progress.
6. Sewing Machine - done!!!!!!!! Just got it today actually - more about that later!
7. Floor Pillows - I've bought some pillow inserts in various sizes but I haven't made any covers recently.
Cute stuff!! Personally, I like the wonky organic spiral. Call it intentional!!
ReplyDeleteLooking great Beth and there's nothing wrong with your spiral :)
ReplyDeleteBeth, these are great! I love what you're doing with the FMQ -- especially those adorable loops!
ReplyDeleteLove your FMQ! The first quilt is really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove the mini quilts! And I think your FMQ looks great from here.
ReplyDeleteI love working on little projects, so satisfying as they are quicker, and you get to try out techniques, I'm going to have to have to do a few more mini quilts as i really want to try more FMQ but i just don't have the stomach for doing massive projects with it! Ange : )
ReplyDeleteThe quilts and quilting are beautiful - I love organic/wonky and any imperfections make it all the more special.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Say you meant to do it. I love the idea of doing little quilts for this. I want to try to do more exciting quilting than just constantly in the ditch, but after spending hours of time and lots of fabric making a full size quilt I'm scared to ruin it with experimental quilting.

Oh those are two very sweet quilts and I think you have fmq pretty well nailed.
ReplyDeleteAdorable mini quilts! I love the FMQ on the mini that looks like little butterflies flying around. Your spiral FMQ looks really good too! Organic quilting always adds a bit of fun to a project. Good job on making so much progress on your hustle list!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Your loops look great. I think they are a lot of fun. I am working on improving my swirls and spirals as well.
ReplyDeleteSuch cute quilts!! You're making awesome progress on your list too!!
ReplyDeleteThese are darling little quilts - once again!
ReplyDeleteLOVE!!!! your little quilts! What a way to practice!!
ReplyDeleteWhat cute quilts! And considering the wonky-ness of the second quilt, I think the wonky spiral is appropriate. I wish I had any friends with babies/kid so I could make them cute things!
