Leftover Block Pillow

When making this quilt, I planned on using one of the blocks as part of the backing but as they often do, my plans changed during the process and I had this leftover block.  So, I added some uneven borders to the block and made a pillow cover instead (and since pillows were on my "want to make" list - yay!)  I used some cushions that I bought a few weeks ago in anticipation of making some covers - they are different then the ones I usually buy and the pillow cover doesn't fit quite right but I'm thinking with use it will adjust over time, right?

  2. How cute! What a great idea to re-purpose. I think it will meld together after use. You should be just fine.

  3. I agree! The pillow will adjust over time! I really like the use of low volume fabrics in your block. You should hop over and link up to Needle and Thread Thursday!

  5. What a beautifully calming low volume cushion! I don't think anyone is going to notice the cushion pad with something as pretty as this x

  13. What a resourceful way to use a leftover block! No one will be the wiser about the size differences. I usually use a too tight cushion and that looks better over time than a too loose and saggy one.

  16. Such a pretty cushion - I think the pillow form will settle into place after a while. I often mean to make a cushion to match a quilt and then run out of enthusiasm after finishing the quilt. I think I need to make the cushion at the same time.

  18. I love using leftover blocks for pillows! When the form doesn't fit quite right I hold the pillow by two corners and give it a couple of whacks against my legs. Rotate pillow 90 degrees and do it again. And again until you have done it in all directions. That will usually redistribute the insert enough to settle it.

  20. You are mad quick to use up your leftovers! I'd squirrel this away in a Ziploc bag with some scraps and promise myself I'd make something out of it, and then I'd let it fester until the fabric was out of style. I'm going to have to get inspired and start doing like you do.

(Love this pillow, of course, as I also love its "momma" quilt.)

  21. It looks great! I have several orphan blocks that I need to make into pillows, since that has been on my list, too. I used to add them to the back of quilts, but now I am over pieced backs, because I'm too lazy:)
