While looking through the photos of this quilt, I found this image which has me wondering if the reason I've been drawn to lots of low-volume and pink fabrics lately is because those beautiful pink flowers are the main view outside my window. This also might explain why my new favorite quilting design is flowers.
I had initially pulled these fabrics to make cushion covers but then quickly realized that this was not the right palette for the intended purpose. However, I really liked these fabrics together so I made a quick quilt using a similar method to the one I described here except I offset the strips.
So, despite this being a completely finished (but not yet washed) quilt, I unpicked the one big spiral and replaced it with a giant flower design. I don't think I would necessarily recommend doing this but it actually worked out okay this time. As you can see in the above photo, I did leave in the little spiral which I wish I had also unpicked but oh, well. Fortunately, this quilt will be one that lives in my house with my daughters who are happy to overlook any and all imperfections (which, if you saw any of my quilts up close, you would know is a good thing!)
Ah, so lovely. The first picture especially makes me smile. Flowers and quilts? No better combo in the world.
ReplyDeleteOh it is so pretty! It looks perfect to me. The soft colors are just lovely. Who wouldn't be inspired by those flowers.
ReplyDeleteBeth, your quilt really does match the flowers~ Love the soft look and all the white~ Very pretty. I can't quilt like that so it looks great to me~ ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteHey, you have to make it the way you love it, otherwise you'll never like it. I've been there too! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteAww-you are the ONLY one who will notice that!! I think it's beautiful and very springy/summery. It's lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the soft colours of the quilt. I think it looks great and I confess I can not see the spiral anyway! I am always inspired by whatever is left out on my desk so that gives me a great excuse not to tidy it up!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous and there is no such thing as imperfections in quilting, they are unique design features ;-)
ReplyDeleteFrom a bright girl, I really enjoy how subtle this quilt is. Very calming and I double anyone else will see what you see. They'll only see the beauty and love.
ReplyDeleteI love all your quilts. So you can just send that one to me if the girls don't want it. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd nice background! ;)
DeleteGorgeous, and love your inspirational view!
ReplyDeleteI've been drawn to softer colors too lately. Having once unpicked about 1/4 of a quilt's worth of quilting, I can sympathize with your plight. But the result looks great and I say it's worth it to have something you're happy with.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty :) if I were inspired by the view I'd have really bright reddish orange and paint box green with white. Our poppies against our white fence.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love the flower petals. I am always so anxious about quilting anything because I am afraid I will choose the wrong pattern. I've spent hours picking out quilting before and it is NOT fun!
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I love that it was something spontaneous. It is so very summer I think, absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I know the feeling of not liking how quilting is working on my quilt and then picking it apart. Been there done that. You did a beautiful job though I love the flower design!
ReplyDeleteI think the quilt is very pretty! It's very modern yet feminine too. I've done quite a few spiral fmq and if I don't mark anything, they are so dense that they make the quilt kind of hard in that spot. I like quilted flowers too.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet quilt, I love it!
ReplyDeletePerfect color choice for this time of year. Low volume is fast becoming my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is gorgeous, Beth! I love the colors and the quilting!!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors! And I've looked several times at that last photo - I can't even find the spiral!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth,
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. And I love that you stuck with it until you made it the way you wanted. I can't even find the small spiral. I think its beautiful and perfect for Spring/Summer!

So fresh and pretty! I think sometimes we're so hard on ourselves if what we envisage doesn't quite work out. I think the quilting is perfect and the colours remind me of your whole blog design- simple and fresh yet sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteI really love this quilt. The spiral flower quilting looks really great! I know it's hard to see things that you aren't happy with in a finished quilt, but I really think it looks great.

ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! And great pictures.
ReplyDeleteit looks great, Beth!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt! I love the negative space and scrappy vibe!
ReplyDeleteI love this, and I can see how you can be inspired by your view :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely quilt. Very nice!
ReplyDeletepretty LV quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with low volume right now, too. Love this quilt!
ReplyDeletegood for you for unpicking something you really didn't like. it's always worth it to not hate looking at it every time you see the quilt. i love the off-set, scrappy look of this quilt! and the color-palette, too.
ReplyDeleteAren't we always our own worst critics? We notice the little things that other never will. I agree with your family! It is a lovely quilt and you 'learned' how much you like to quilt flowers!

your quilt looks great, Beth.
ReplyDeletescrappy quilts need scrappy backs. It looks wonderful. I have finally jumped into FMQ and you should see some of mine. I am new to this blogging thing so don't have much up yet, but all of my quilt sandwiches ended up as hot pads and they are wild. It's FMQ because you are free to quilt whatever, right? I love to FMQ when I am upset or angry. Ahh, you should see some of that FMQ. LOL. Love your stuff. Proud of you for sharing. I Love the "mistakes".
